IMEX America 2012 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, was an ideal venue to showcase Site, debut the new Site membership categories for 2013 and promote the benefits of being a member of this exciting organization. In addition to the Site stand, there were Site “sightings” all over the exhibition hall as members proudly displayed Site ribbons on their name badges, Site lapel pins and Site signs in their stands. Thanks to the dedicated recruitment efforts of Site Northern California Chapter leaders Carol Chorbajian and Darci Motta and Site Southern California Chapter leader John Ehlenfeldt, Site Source is pleased to introduce and welcome one of Site’s newest members, Serena Wellman, Director of Group Sales for Carmel Valley Ranch in Northern California. Serena is no stranger to Site, as she has been involved as a guest and sponsor of many Site events over the past few years.
Site Source chatted with Serena about her career and membership; here is what she had to say:
Site Source: Please share with Site Source readers about your career in the incentive travel, motivational events and meetings industry.
Serena Wellman: I am currently the Director of Group Sales for Carmel Valley Ranch – a luxury all Suite resort that sits on 500 acres of gorgeous wooded scenery in Northern California. My responsibility is to promote The Ranch to group clients looking for a unique, luxury, activity focused experience. The Ranch recently underwent a $35M remodel, and created a playground for all ages – from bee keeping to bocce ball we have a little bit of something for everyone. I began my career in Napa Valley as a Sales & Catering Coordinator and worked my way up from Coordinator to Small Meetings Manager to Sales Manager in the span of 7 years. The moment I set foot in wine country I knew I would never stray far from luxury resorts (or wine!).
Site Source: In addition to the active recruitment efforts of Site Northern California Chapter leaders, what prompted you to finally become a member of Site?
Serena Wellman: Site has always been an organization I’ve had tremendous respect for. I began attending the Site SoCal Holiday Luncheon when I was a Small Meetings Manager and I have not missed one since then. The energy of the industry is apparent at every Site event, and the philanthropic efforts are remarkable. In the past two years, I’ve had involvement with Site Classic, as The Ranch was a sponsor hotel in 2012 and in 2013. I attended again as a sponsor in Aspen. It is a great group of individuals and we are all very passionate about creating rewarding experiences for our clients. As Site NorCal gains momentum, it is the perfect time to officially become a member and accept the role of VP of Membership!
Site Source: What do you think are the personal and professional benefits you will realize as a Site member?
Serena Wellman: I’m excited to join a group of influential and extremely connected individuals who can lean on each other for support and ideas as we navigate through this crazy industry that we are so passionate about. Life’s a party and it’s even better when it’s work!
