SITE China President, Tang Liang (Leo), is Founder and CEO of Eventown DMC headquartered in Beijing, China. Eventown provides professional meeting and incentive planning and management services and has the top website in China offering venue information in 152 first and second tier cities in China. Recognized as a leading Chinese National Entrepreneurship Talent, Leo is a founder of Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business and has participated in the school’s Marketing Department. He has also served as a consultant for Google China and as Chief News Officer for Sohu ChangYou (Nasdaq: CYOU), an online gaming company.
SITE: Serving as a Chapter Leader is a volunteer position and requires a significant time commitment. What motivated you to take on the role of President for SITE China?
Leo: I was inspired by one of the former SITE presidents to get involved as a Chapter Leader. The greatest motivation I have for becoming President came from my own experiences with SITE and the benefits I have gained as a follower over the years. SITE is concentrated on incentive travel and motivational experiences with business results. As long as I have worked in the MICE industry, I have shared the SITE spirit of delivering results for our companies and clients. With the development of China, it’s time to enhance the awareness that “Incentive travel is not a luxury, but a necessity”. Thus, as President of SITE China, I want to be here to find many opportunities to build relationships and develop the incentive travel industry in China.
SITE: When recruiting new members, what do you tell them are the greatest benefits of being a member of SITE?
Leo: I always tell new and potential members that joining SITE is the best way to realize a return on investment, enhance your career and grow your business by becoming actively engaged with the SITE community at the regional and global level. I share that SITE is a global community of high-character people connecting its members around the world to a group of peers who share their skill and passion and provides excellent education and research to help members stay on top of industry trends to expand their personal and professional development. Being a member is a great opportunity to meet like-minded people in the industry on all levels. SITE is a great provider of industry knowledge therefore SITE China will help its members to profit from the education and impact the quality of events in China.
SITE: What are some of the educational activities and events SITE China is doing in 2015 to engage current and prospective members?
Leo: We have already planned our educational program starting with training and local networking events so that our members can learn more about SITE, incentive industry trends and each other. By attending SITE China events, current and prospective members have a platform through which they can learn from colleagues and competitors and share information. They can expand their own visions, and also give back to their employees, employers and communities in different ways.
We are hosting some wildly successful educational opportunities such as the Nouveau MICE Industry Fairs held in Shanghai in May and in Beijing this September. These very successful events help to improve insights relevant to business travel and establish guides for a workable solution between Hotel Managers, DMC and PCO.
We are also going to establish a SITE Social Club, which will be open to potential new members in the industry and a online event to provide opportunities for members to get connected and discuss their experiences in the industry.
The MICE industry in China is set to rapidly move ahead. Meetings, incentives, exhibitions, and events are essentially networking tools and will always be the cornerstone of successful businesses. It's difficult to keep up with the latest trends, newest experiences and current hot spots without being involved with an organization like SITE. By participating in the SITE China training programs and by engaging with current and prospective members, industry professionals in China can learn how to unlock the power of their own business to connect with participants in new and unique ways and deliver business results for their customers.
