As Site leaders actively began planning the upcoming Site Global Conference 2013 in Orlando, Florida, USA, there was a first point of order to attend to: honoring the memory of Gary Sain. Sain, the former President and CEO of Visit Orlando, believed in raising the travel and hospitality industry through the development of up-and-coming professionals and was committed to the advancement of Orlando as the premier leisure and meeting destination in America. One of Sain’s favorite interests, which combined those two passions, was the University of Central Florida (UCF) Rosen College of Hospitality Management.
“Gary was an important member of the extended Site family and was instrumental in Site choosing Orlando for our 2013 Global Conference and 40th anniversary celebration,” shared Allison Summers, Managing Director of Site. “We have committed to partnering with the University of Central Florida Rosen College of Hospitality Management to award a scholarship to a student to become a Site member and to attend the Site Global Conference 2013 in Orlando.”
Through this scholarship, Site will provide one student with invaluable professional growth and business insight into the motivational events and incentive travel segment of the industry. Site looks forward to celebrating the Site Global Conference, 7–10 December 2013 at the Loew’s Portofino Bay Hotel at Universal Orlando®, and paying tribute to Gary Sain through the education of our industry’s future, as well as an exceptional display of his beloved Orlando. The scholarship application process will open in 2013.
Site is proud to play this small part in continuing Sain’s legacy. Friends in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry are invited to make their own contributions directly to the Rosen College of Hospitality Management’s Gary C. Sain Memorial Endowed Scholarship, an academic-based award given annually to a full-time undergraduate student in the College majoring in Event Management with an emphasis in Destination Management.
“Gary Sain, who truly had the soul of an educator, was a dear friend and colleague of the College,” said Dr. Abraham Pizam, Dean of UCF’s Rosen College of Hospitality Management. “His memory will be preserved through the Gary C. Sain Memorial Endowed Scholarship, and this Site experience will complement the overall success and development of a future global hospitality leader.”
