Site Spotlight Shines on New Member, Marianela Pina, CIS from the Dominican Republic

Pina, Marianela.jpgMarianela Pina, CIS has been the Director of the Congresses and Incentives department at the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic since March 2013. Prior to taking on the role, she worked with the country brand in the Communications department at the Center of Exports and Imports of the Dominican Republic (CEI-RD).

Site: The Dominican Republic is already a very popular destination for leisure travel and tourism. What would you share with planners to encourage them to consider the Dominican Republic for incentive travel?

Pina: As we proudly promote, the Dominican Republic truly has it all - the combination of breathtaking environments and a large diversity of facilities ready to welcome incentive program winners with open arms. We provide stress-free air access, renown hotel brands with over 70,000 hotel rooms (and more to come), world-famous gorgeous beaches, imposing mountains, a wonderful array of ecotourism activities, extraordinary cultural encounters, superb golf, delicious gastronomy and, most importantly, properties and companies filled with people that will work to guarantee that your group remembers our country among their most rewarding experiences.

Site:  What motivated you to earn the Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) credential and become a member of Site?

Pina: I have come to really enjoy working on Tourism and especially on the MICE segment. After earning the Site Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) credential last year I’ve become particularly interested in how travel experiences can motivate and enthuse people. I firmly believe that the Dominican Republic has all the resources to create truly unforgettable experiences.

Site: What do you think are the benefits for CVB's and Tourism Organizations of being a Site Member?

Pina: I believe that the main benefit for the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic is having constant contact with a valuable source like Site to provide expertise and training to help us identify our weaknesses and improve them. Being connected to the mainstream of the Incentive Travel industry gives us the opportunity to educate our professionals in order to provide better quality services that will ensure our growth as more than just a leisure destination and help us be more competitive with destinations that have been established longer in the incentive market.
