Site Arizona Chapter member Devin Hernandez joined imortgage in 2011 as Travel and Meeting Manager. She is the only in-house planner and is responsible for monthly trainings, National Sales Meetings, the President’s Club and a Holiday Party with nearly 2,000 attendees. Prior to joining imortgage, Devin’s career included roles in a DMC, hotel operations, catering and AV production. Devin has been a Site member for four years and is the only corporate planner on the Board of Site Arizona. She serves as the sponsor chair for the 19th annual “Discover Arizona,” Site Arizona's premier planner event, being held 26-30 September 2013 in Scottsdale and Sedona, Arizona.
Site Source: What or who motivated you to become a member of Site?
Devin Hernandez: I first joined Site when I was in a supplier position and found that it was a great organization for networking and meeting other suppliers and buyers in the Arizona market. As a corporate planner, responsible for up to 30 unique events a year, I am always challenged to come up with new ideas. Because I am so busy, it is easy to get stuck in a rut. My involvement with Site Arizona is very beneficial as it helps me stay on top of creative, motivational and memorable experiences and activities for imortgage events.
Site Source: What do you feel are the greatest personal and professional benefits of being a Site member?
Devin: The meeting and events industry is a primary driver of Arizona’s economy and the people employed in travel and hospitality makes up a small and close-knit community. My husband, Eli, also works in the industry as General Manager for Event Team, which is owned by Site Member Rowan Pickering. Site members are my “professional family” – they understand me and the needs and demands of my job and are always willing to offer ideas and assistance.
Site Source: What do you think Site can do to demonstrate greater value to current and prospective members?
Devin: Site should leverage the experience and relationships of current corporate planners to attract more corporate planners. As the only planner on the Site Arizona Board, I am in a unique position and offer a different perspective. In my role as Sponsor Chair for “Discover Arizona,” because I am a planner other planners are more responsive to my invitations to attend the event. Also, because I do business with many suppliers in the area, they are more apt to sign-on as “Discover Arizona” sponsors.
The Site Arizona Board does not feel like we have a strong connection with Site Global and other Site Chapters around the world. This year we are committed to reaching out to other Site Chapters to share education and knowledge and encourage inter-chapter participation in events such as “Discover Arizona.” We invite all Site members to participate in or become a sponsor of the four-day event that will be held 26-30 September at the fabulous Enchantment Resort and Mii amo Spa, Sedona and Montelucia Resort and Spa, Scottsdale. It will be a great opportunity to be face-to-face with some of the industry’s most successful incentive planners and buyers. Sponsors will gain additional exposure through our Discover Arizona Trade Show that will be a great way to showcase their offerings in an intimate setting.
