Update on SITE Classic

How quickly things change.

One month ago we were finalising our plans for SITE Classic, putting the last touches to a high quality incentive travel experience designed to showcase the latest and greatest developments on The Bahamas.

A mere four weeks later we’re making important tweaks to the programme, incorporating key CSR initiatives in support of the communities whose lives and livelihoods were ruined by the devastating impact of Hurricane Dorian on Grand Bahama and The Abacos.

Thankfully, and perhaps miraculously, the island of New Providence – where Baha Mar, host of SITE Classic next month, is located – has sustained minimal damage. The resort remains fully operational, as is Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport.

The absolute best course of action for SITE Classic, our guests and sponsors, is to proceed now, as normal, and operate the best possible incentive quality event we can, showing, unequivocally, that Baha Mar, and all its wonderful resorts, are indeed open for business. This ensures continuity of economic activity and sustains jobs.

But we also need to respond, as best we can, to the prevailing situation in the greater destination where loved ones have been lost, homes have been destroyed and livelihoods have been ruined.

For this reason, we are replacing the social activities originally scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, 16 October with a practical, hands-on activity in support of the Hurricane relief work. In addition, we are asking all SITE Classic participants to “Pack with Love” filling their suitcases with basic backpack supplies like pencils, erasers, pens, notebooks. We’ll be supplying customs waiver forms to all to ensure ease of passage.

SITE Classic is a sold out event with over 250 incentive travel professionals due to travel to The Bahamas. For those members and friends of SITE not attending SITE Classic we encourage you to consider donating to the Hurricane Relief fund established by a pan-industry coalition of SITE, MPI and our chapters in Florida and the Caribbean: checks may be Mailed to: SITE Florida & Caribbean RE: Bahamas Relief Fund, 2257 NW 62nd Drive, Boca Raton, FL 33496.
