On August 13th, an educational session in Montevideo, Uruguay, took place with the guest speaker Liliam Kechichian, Uruguay's Ministry of Tourism and Benjamin Liberoff, Undersecretary of Tourism. Both highlighted the importance of the MICE industry for the country.

Also, Uruguay expressed interest in joining forces with Argentina to further develop tourism together.

SITE members and guests were in attendance and they got a snapshot of trends in the industry as well as some hard numbers, facts and figures from the SITE INDEX.

Santiago Gonzalez, ICCA Regional Director was also invited and talked about the impact of the meeting industry and the potential Uruguay has for the incentive travel.

The day after this event, Emora Franco, President of the SITE South American Chapter was asked to speak at Catholic University in Uruguay (UCU) about the MICE industry and incentive travel industries for students working towards their tourism degrees.

“It was such a nice experience because I was a professor at Catholic University two years ago and the students were very eager to hear about the MICE industry,” says Emora.
