Seth Ryan, Global Account Director, Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has been elected SITE Minnesota President for 2016. He has been an active member since he joined SITE in 2013 and has served on the chapter board for the past two years. Prior to joining Starwood, Seth was an Account Manager, National Sales for Marriott International.
“The success of the SITE Minnesota chapter would be impossible without the active support and participation of our board members, and I would like to recognize them for their service. We have two board members leaving us this year, Joanie Phillips and Philip Eidsvold. I want to thank them both for their leadership, oversight and for making this chapter what it is today! We also want to recognize our three new board members Doug Moorhouse, Karen Devine, and Melissa Frownfelter. Thank you for your commitment!”
SITE: What/who motivated you to assume a SITE chapter leader position?
SETH: Chapter Past-President, Anne Marie Rogers is definitely my biggest fan and was instrumental in getting me involved in the chapter in the first place. She and the board really cheered me on to take on the role of chapter president and I am loving every minute of it! My management team at Starwood has been very supportive as well, which makes it even easier to get involved at a high level. We held our first board meeting during the first week of January and I am truly excited for the great group of folks that we have on our board and all the boundless opportunities that lie ahead for our chapter this year.
SITE: What events and activities is the chapter planning in 2016 to engage current members and recruit new members?
SETH: We will kick-off the year with a Sip & SITE Networking and Happy Hour event on 16 February. The chapter hosts several Sip & SITE events throughout the year and they are very popular, providing a great opportunity to meet people and build business relationships in an informal environment. On 13 April we will be hosting an Education Day as part of the larger SITE Global Education Week. We are also planning a completely free event to engage interested individuals, more specifically young leaders in our industry, to explore all the organization has to offer. During this event we will be giving away a full year membership to SITE.
SITE: The chapter realized a 15% increase in membership over the past year. What do you attribute to this success?
SETH: The reputation of the chapter speaks for itself. The board continually does an excellent job in maintaining a 1:1 buyer/supplier ratio and this is extremely attractive to those that are looking to join our great chapter! We are able to accomplish this because of the incredible support we receive from our members and event sponsors.
SITE: When recruiting new members what do you tell them are the greatest benefits of being a member of SITE?
SETH: We are fortunate that Minnesota is a major center for businesses in the incentive travel industry. As I mentioned before, the 1:1 supplier to buyer ratio has to be one of the chapter's greatest strengths. That, coupled with our award winning education events and the solid relationships that have been built in our chapter, makes us a great choice for not only industry professionals that live and work in our region, but those that do business here as well.
