We launched CITP earlier this year at Incentive Summit Americas (ISA) and already the first batch of CITP certificates have been awarded to 43 individuals who successfully earned the designation. Of the 43, 23 live and work in the United States with the remainder in 12 countries worldwide, representing all industry disciplines. With further exams scheduled for SITE Classic and IMEX America, we expect over 100 people will earn their CITP by year’s end.

The CITP project was led by Jenn Glynn, CITP,  Managing Partner, Meeting Encore and current SITE Board member. She explained, “CITP is specifically aimed at the incentive travel industry and meets a need, particularly for Incentive Companies, for formal, objective recognition of the knowledge, experience and expertise of their incentive travel specialists who, until now, have had nothing other than the non- specialist CMP designation with which to highlight their professionalism.”

The designation is awarded upon successful completion of an 80 question examination within a two hour time period designed to measure and validate performance against typical requirements of an incentive travel professional: strategic case-making around the business benefits of incentive travel, finance and budgeting, operations and execution, program design and delivery, CSR and sustainability.

To take the exam a candidate needs to have 5 years of full time employment in the Business Events /MICE industry and 40 hours of Continuous Professional Education (25% must be specifically produced by SITE and related to incentive travel.)

To prepare for the exam, SITE offers a specific preparatory course for the CITP certificate. The course, which can be accessed on the SITE Knowledge Centre, consists of nine modules with 3.5 hours of content (3.5 CE credits) and is mapped to the CITP Exam Content Outline.

According to Jenn, feedback has been extremely enthusiastic. “The exam itself has been described as ‘tough but fair’ and both employers and employees love it as it provides an objective industry benchmark against which to evaluate or demonstrate your experience and expertise. I’d like to heartily congratulate the 43 incentive professionals who have received their CITP certificates and encourage all SITE members, holders of the CIS designation and other incentive travel professionals to take the exam.”
