Raising the Bar in Baha Mar - SITE Classic reaches new heights

SITE Classic brings 300 incentive travel professionals to

Grand Hyatt, Baha Mar, Nassau, The Bahamas

SITE Classic concluded last week at Grand Hyatt, Baha Mar with 300 incentive travel professionals in no doubt as to the incentive appeal of The Bahamas despite the recent ravages of Hurricane Dorian. Over 3 days, attendees connected and built their professional network, learned career enhancing new skills and discovered the pulse and beating heart of this stunning host destination.

“We’ve had Baha Mar on our radar for some time now”, said John Iannini, President of the SITE Foundation, “so anticipation amongst our attendee community was almost at fever pitch. Hurricane Dorian did cause problems but once it passed and the health and safety of our attendees were secure, we were determined to be part of the solution and channel the good news that The Bahamas is very much open for business”.

“Hurricane Dorian was a prime example of how a threat can be turned into an opportunity. We leave The Bahamas personally and deeply enriched as a result of being able to play a small part in the Hurricane Relief program. Our DMC partner in The Bahamas, Cacique International, used their unparalleled local connections to create an extensive, meaningful CSR activity where our attendees could get involved and make a difference. We feel privileged to have had this opportunity”. said Anne DiGregory, Vice President Fundraising and Events.

During the destination immersion program, we choose from 8 options that included learning to swing a golf club and demonstrating our learning by taking the Certified Incentive Travel Professional (CITP) designation. Highly popular, too, were the destination-specific experiences such as the painting class and “flexing with the flock”, an outdoor yoga class where the best “downward facing dog” was the one performed by the graceful pink flamingos who enlivened our session.

The local Bahamian MICE community was extremely grateful to SITE Foundation for being unflinching in its support for the destination despite concerns in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. On the Wednesday afternoon, the CSR activity set a new bar in destination management allowing almost 300 people undertake a meaningful, transformational CSR activity that will live long in our hearts for the fact that we made a tangible, heartfelt contribution to various hurricane relief initiatives.

Besides its strategic pillars - connect, learn, discover - SITE Classic is also a fundraiser for SITE Foundation. Funds raised at the silent and live auction are mission critical for the work that SITE Foundation does on behalf of the incentive travel industry around education, research and advocacy. At SITE Classic 2019 over a quarter of a million dollars were raised in support of SITE Foundation’s work.

And SITE Foundation has also launched SITE Classic 2020 – it’ll take place in Seattle in Fall 2020.
