Mid Summer Update
from Philip Eidsvold, CIS, CITP, President, SITE
& VP, Strategic Alliances, One10
As the first 6 months of my presidential year draw to an end, I wanted to connect with you all and share some of the highlights of what is fast becoming a red letter year in SITE’s history.
2019 is a year of records, governance, brand new events, innovation and partnerships.
Records & Governance Protocols
Thanks to the great work of our chapters and executive leadership and better clarification around our core value proposition – SITE is the “I” in MICE – we’re tearing up the record book in 2019 as regards membership numbers both in terms of retention – we’re at a historically high percentage of 74% - and actual numbers – by year’s end we’ll have greatly exceeded our 2020 target, a full year in advance!
A key tenet for my presidential year is ensuring best-in-class governance structures across our entire association.
Since January, our executive leadership team has been strengthened by the addition of Tahira Endean as Head of Events and Mark Swets as Head of Operations.
We’re also midway through a root and branches review of our processes around Board elections.
New Events & Certifications
As part of our vision to establish annual events for each of our regions we launched Incentive Summit Europe this year and attracted over 50 incentive travel professionals to Verbier, Switzerland for a winter-style incentive.
We’re actively working on Incentive Summit Asia now so look out for announcements in the 2nd half of my presidential year.
Our Certified Incentive Specialist (CIS) certification, meanwhile, is now well North of 2000 qualifiers while our middle management Certified Incentive Travel Professional (CITP), launched last year is going from strength to strength.
Innovation – Digital Transformation & Bangkok Manifesto
A key innovation that I launched at the start of this year is our Digital Transformation project. I appointed President-Elect, Jenn Glynn, to head up this vitally important initiative that involves a radical review of our digital assets with the objective of creating brand new, fit-for-purpose web platforms and tools.
Under the overall direction of an out-sourced specialist agency, Jenn is working with an amazing task force of SITE volunteers to consolidate SITE’s digital reputation as the go-to association for anything associated with incentive travel.
To truly fulfil its mission as the “I” in MICE, SITE must continuously claim its thought leadership position for incentive travel and motivational events.
We executed the Bangkok Manifesto in Thailand in January last just as I became President of SITE.
At IMEX Frankfurt we launched the print edition, 40 packed pages of insights and viewpoints all stemming from the 10 statements that make up the Manifesto.
The reaction has been amazing and excitement is already mounting for The Vancouver Manifesto which we’ll develop in BC during our 2020 global conference.
Partnerships with other Business Events associations continues to be important for SITE. The Global MICE Collaborative with MPI and IAEE kicked off in January with all 3 associations providing keynote education at an important MICE conference in Shenzhen, China.
And this month we’ll launch the 2nd edition of the Incentive Travel Industry Index, our joint survey of the marketplace with FICP and IRF.
This year’s study will be conducted with a new research partner, Oxford Economics.
So that’s it for my half year update. Be sure to sign up for SITE NITE North America, registration is currently live on SITEGlobal.com.
And, if you’re a Young Leader, then sign up for our annual Young Leaders’ Conference taking place immediately prior to IMEX Americas.
See you out there!
